In many years of their work based on breeding and selection of grain crops, the experts of Agricultural Institute of Republic of Srpska – Banja Luka, Department for small grains, have developed 14 varieties of wheat, 2 variety of barley, 2 varieties of triticale and 1 variety of rye.

These varieties have been designed for different agricultural conditions in Bosnia and Herzegovina where growth occurs from valley areas to mountain plateaus up to 900 meters altitude. By utilizing the mentioned varieties, it is possible to meet all requirements from different categories of producers, as well as milling and bakery industry of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Of all positive traits of BL-varieties, several should be emphasized, such as high fruiting potential, excellent resistance to low winter temperatures, tolerance to late sowing periods, and resistance to lodging. With proper varietal agrotechnics, mentioned traits result in excellent yield adaptability and stability, especially in years of poor production.
