By continuous, many year  implementation of the maize breeding program with clearly defined goals, the breeders of the Agricultural Institute of the Republic of Srpska - Banja Luka have created a hybrid BL 43 with high yield potential, which is drought tolerant.

Hybrid maize BL 43 is recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Wather Managment of Serbia, Belgrade, and it is on the hybrids list that have been granted production in Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a domestic hybrid.

New hybrid BL 43 except high yield and drought tolerance has wide adaptability and yield stability, resistance to lodging and breaking down. It is tolerant to major leaf pests and aphids. The grain is dent type, large, tightly attached to the cobs and has excellent quality .

Recognition and approval for production of new hybrids is not the ultimate goal of maize breeders , but the ultimate goal is to hybrid maize BL 43 be significantly represented in the fields of manufacturers around the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Such an objective is recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of RS and which gave financial support to the project "Testing and introduction into production of new hybrids BL 43" in the 2011.

The implementation of this project is Institute testing the maize hybrid BL 43 in macro experiment and promoting of the resultes to a numerous producers and reporters at the event " Days of corn fields" and visitors to Agriculture and Food Industry fair in Banja Luka.

These activities of promotion the hybrid BL 43 we have continued to 2012. In same time we have organized seed production for the market in the 2013.

During the testing and introduction in the production of hybrid BL 43 during the 2011 and 2012 all the cultivated genotypes were subjected to a strong impact of bad weather conditions, especially drought. In these extremely bad production conditions, maize hybrid BL 43 has shown excellent tolerance.

Marketing and development of new products in the domestic market of the RS and BiH is of great importance, especially in today's existence and expansion of the economic crisis.

In this sence, the Institute plans to give further efforts and significantly increase the production of hybrid BL 43 seed. By developing domestic product we will employ more local workers (especially skilled people ) and significantly reduce the outflow of funds for impored seeds.
