Program activities in plant protection:

• Department’s main activities in plant protection are: identification of plant disease agents (fungi, bacteria, phytoplasmas and important viruses) in plants, plant parts and plant products, phytosanitary control of seed production, nurseries and seedlings, phytosanitary control of plants in internal market, export and import in Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, phytosanitary plant control which means detection of harmful and quarantine pests in plants, plant parts and plant products, determination of phytopatogenic fungi, determination of phytopatogenic bacteria, biological tests, testing of pesticide biological efficiency, determination and monitoring of aeroallergenic pollen, professional advices to farmers on preventing, control and eradication of plant diseases, pests and weeds, as well as research projects in plant protection.
• Department’s scientific-research activities in plant protection are different researches which among the rest mean researches on patogenic, morfological, cultural and molecular characteristics of phytopatogenic fungi, bacteria, viruses and other harmful organisms, as well as biological tests, testing of pesticide biological efficiency, determination and monitoring of aeroallergenic pollen, as well as research projects in plant protection.
• Besides these activities, Agricultural Institute of Republic of Srpska, Banja Luka, also does special programs in plant protection which are of national interest. The aim of these programs is to confirm presence and distribution of harmful and quarantine pests in Republic of Srpska, as well as preventing their introduction or spreading to some areas of the country.
• These programs also have other specific aims such is harmonization of existing legislative with EU legislative and establishing continuous quarantine pest monitoring in Republic of Srpska with the emphasis on quarantine pest presence or absence and distribution maps in our country. These informations would be useful to phytosanitary inspection in giving phytosanitary certificates as well as farmers who could swimmingly sell and export their products.
